When decorating your home using Feng Shui as a guide, it is important to follow certain Feng Shui principles, which are:
Yin and Yang
Directions
Five elements
Yin and Yang means a balance of the male and female energy, Yin (female) is dark and is considered to be associated with passiveness, femininity and softness. Yang (male) is light and it is associated with brightness, activity and masculinity. Together they form a symbol of harmony which creates a balance between the two. This balance assists in the flow of chi within the home. It is recommended to use a combination of light and dark colors in your color scheme and a selection of both hard and soft furniture.
Directions of where your doors, beds, stoves and staircases face is also taken into consideration. A bed should not be in direct line with the doorway either to the room or across from a bathroom. Placing a bed under a window or a large beam is not recommended. Staircases should not face the front door. and preferably not be located in the center of the home. Your back should not be facing the front door when you stand at your stove.
Colors should reflect, somewhat the areas of the BaGua that represents various life issues. For instance, the SE area of the home would do well with colors of purple, gold or green to power up your Wealth chi. The SW area would resonate with pink, red. or rose and bring added energy to relationships. Children's rooms should not be painted in very dark colors. Lighter blues and greens are best.
The five elements should be well represented in your home. They are: Water, Metal. Fire, Wood and Earth. The element of water can be utilized by placing fountains or aquariums in the proper place. Metal can easily be represented by placing photos in metal frames. Fire; (candles. BBQ"s, fireplaces, etc). Wood can be powerfully represented with plants and trees, and earth; (clay pots, etc). Use you imagination and come up with new and creative ways of implementing the 5 elements!

Feng Shui and Nutrition
Good nutrition is Good Feng Shui! I bet you never heard that one before, but it's true. I've often said that your home is your second body, so many of my posts have been about bringing balance and energy into your living and working spaces. But how are you treating your primary body? All the feng shui in the world will not help to balance and energize your physical and emotional health if you're not "taking care of business" in your every day living habits.
I'm sure that you are all blue in the face from hearing about eating all the servings of fruits and vegetables, so I won't bore you with that one! What I really want to focus on is your own personal 'chi' or energy level. My teacher and mentor, Grand Master Professor Thomas Lin Yun will teach in all his classes about how important it is to work on building your own personal chi to resonate with the chi of your home and working space.
If you are not eating correctly, you automatically deplete your personal chi! If you skip breakfast, and grab a cup of coffee and a bagel, you are depleting your personal chi for the day!
Stress causes a depletion of personal chi like nothing else. If you are under stress, and who isn't these days, than it's your job to do everything possible to counter the negative effects of stress, anxiety and depression that maybe assaulting you..
OK, I still have to suggest eating fresh fruits and vegetables every day. Sorry, but it's a fact that these food sources carry strong healing chi to our bodies. If you simply can't seem to get these foods into your every day schedule, try juicing your veggies and making enough for two or three days at a time. Also, there are wonderful supplements on the market today that you can take in capsule form! So no excuses, please. You can take a full days recommended dose of your fruits and veggies now in a pill. Who would have thought?
Be careful of diets that restrict one type of food, for instance "carbohydrates. It seems that everyone is on a "low carb " diet these days, but is this really an all around recommendation for everyone? Certainly if you are diabetic or have higher than normal blood glucose, you should be aware that carbs can acerbate the problem. If you are TRULY glucose intolerant or have a predisposition to Celiac disease, you may want to cut out or cut back carbs, but if you are only on a low carb diet to loose weight... than you may be depleting your body of a very important component to good health. Everything in moderation is not only something my Mom once said, but a very good way to live. A varied diet with many nutritional foods is the way to go for optimal health and chi balance.
I also cannot express how important exercise and meditation is to leading a healthy life full of abundant chi! You don't have to torture yourself with hours at the gym, or run until you drop! Moderate exercise is wonderful for balancing your physical and emotional life. A Yoga class is one of the very best ways of bringing good chi into your body and the benefits of one class can last for days!
Yours in Good Feng Shui and Good Health!
Blessings

What makes Some Homes More Prosperous Than Others?
Along with that question, I also say that there is no "magic bullet" to success and financial wealth. So many issues are involved in having great success. Hard work, and luck are two important factors. However, there is one important factor that many overlook; and that is the very fact that your home may be working against you!
OK, I hear you. "My home is beautiful" you say. Agreed, but how is the unseen ENERGY or CHI circulating in your environment? If your home isn't in balance energetically, it may negatively affect every aspect of your life, including the ability to maintain financial success, healthy relationships and even your physical and emotional health.
The entrance to your home is where opportunity and prosperity enter your home or business. It is the single most important factor in attracting good 'chi' into your space. If you can not clearly see the street from your front door (without bending over) you may be missing opportunities in your life. Additionally, if your entry way is blocked by trees, clutter, storage, shoes, bikes etc., you are blocking the very energy needed to flow freely within your home/office. If you have multiple entrances, the energy becomes confused and can't flow properly. It's important to establish one main entrance.
Your entrance must be bright, vibrant and clean, and certainly...without clutter!

Feng Shui and Religious Beliefs

Many people ask me if Feng Shui is a religion. Emphatically, the answer is no!
Feng Shui has nothing to do with your religious beliefs. The practice of feng shui is used successfully by people of all faiths.
Feng Shui is based on science, and it can be likened to Acupuncture. Acupuncture is the science of healing your body by balancing the energy patterns in your body. (The Acupuncturist uses tiny needles to balance the meridians of your body to alleviate pain, illnesses, etc).
Feng Shui works much the same for your home as Acupuncture works for your body. By working with the five elements, Metal, Fire, Wood, Earth, and Water, a trained FS practitioner can treat the invisible energies that may negatively affect your health and well-being. In fact, it has been said that feng shui practitioners act as Acupuncturists for your home/office!
Unless your faith prevents you from seeing Acupuncturists, there should be nothing to stop you from using the practice of Feng Shui to improve all aspects of your life.

Do You Think of Yourself as Wealthy?

If you only think of yourself as wealthy (or NOT wealthy) by the amount of money and "stuff" you have, then you are missing so much of what life has to offer. A life that is driven primarily by financial gain is a life out of balance.
One of the many thing I love about feng shui is the focus on balance and harmony. Sure, money may make your life easier in some ways, but once you have all the money you think you need....well, this might present even bigger problems.
If money made us happy than all the millionaires would be jumping for joy! Can someone be truly wealthy if they had to sacrifice their health, family, friends, reputation, and their own spirituality?
In feng shui, we have 9 life situations that make a person "wealthy" and they are called "The Nine Aspirations. These aspirations correspond to each and every area of an energy map called the BaGua. The BaGua is a tool that is placed over a diagram of your home to locate areas of concern. To have a life in harmony, each of these areas should be in balance.
Those areas are as follows, and I've added a few "remedies" to help in balancing those locations. (Start at the front door which in our school of Feng Shui is always North or the NORTH side of your home)
1. The wealth of your Career. This sector is at your front door or (North).
Adding water to this area will stimulate career opportunities and success.
2. The wealth of many Helpful People and Mentors in your life. (Northwest corner)
Add photos of your mentors or people who have been a good influence in your life. Also a wonderful place for your deities.
3. The wealth of your own Creativity and Healthy Children. (The West sector of your home)
Use accents made of Metal to energize your creativity. Photos of your children and the usage of crystals also work well in this area.
4. The wealth of a Happy Marriage, Good Relationships and Love. (Southwest corner)
Use the 'Power of Two' here. Two photos, two figurines, two flowers, two candles, etc. etc. Adding the colors of pink or red stimulates passion.
5. The wealth of an excellent Reputation and Business Opportunities (The South area of your home, or directly across from the Career area.
Red...Red...Red...! Fire up your reputation with the color of red. This is also ideally where FIRE should be as well. A fireplace, a BBQ or Fire Pit (outside, of course) or red candles.
6. The wealth of Abundance in all areas of life, especially Financial. (Southeast area of your home and property)
This is a wonderful place to build your pool/ jacuzzi or erect a fountain with the force of the water aimed at your home. This is the area to work on building your financial success and see your investments grow.
7. The wealth of a happy, healthy, unified family. (The East side of your home)
This area resonates with Wood. Place trees, plants, wood furniture and family members in wood frames.
8. The wealth of Knowledge. (Northwest corner)
Use good lighting, crystals, books , and blue accents to energize our ability to learn, focus, and "see" what we need to see with clarity.
9. The wealth of Good Health! (The very Center of your Home)
This area is most important because it sets the tone for the energy of the whole house.
The center of the home also resonates with physical, mental, emotional and the spiritual health of the family.
Use Earth objects as much as possible in this area.

Take a day off and not feel guilty!
Please don't feel guilty about switching off and doing absolutely nothing, maybe even for a whole day!
A guilt trip often nags us when we take time for ourselves. We seem to be programmed to cram as much in a day as possible and accomplish everything that we set out to do. Our reward is often exhaustion at the end of the day!
Feng Shui is about balance, harmony and tranquility. If we rush around like maniacs, we don't get a chance to savor a good part of life. Relaxation! When our life is in balance, all aspects of our life work better. that means taking a "ME" day once in awhile to do absolutely nothing!
That doesn't mean rushing to keep a spa, hairdresser or nail appointment. What I really mean is putter!! Send the family out for the day, and take time to rejuvenate with a good book. Sit and enjoy your back yard without the family running around and just luxuriate in the beauty of nature. Watch TV alone if that's your thing. (You'll get to watch what YOU want for a change.)
Having a special day like this is often the key to replenishing what is lost during our hectic schedules.
Relax and enjoy. Yours in Good Feng Shui!

Feng Shui and Color
Every human being is affected by colors. Every color evokes a different emotion in the mind of the beholder. A red rose or a white lily will evoke different feelings altogether. When you use Feng Shui in your home, much attention is paid to the colors chosen.
We see different colors because of their reflective properties. Feng Shui uses colors to reflect energy and create harmony.
The colors representing fire (red) and wood (green' are powerful colors. These colors will give you positive energy needed for motivation.
The colors representing fire (red) and wood (green' are powerful colors. These colors will give you positive energy needed for motivation.
Rich greens and vibrant red~ are also great for revving up needed energy, when you feel tired or depressed .. Yellow stands for warmth, sunbeams, cheer, motion, friendliness etc. But too much yellow can cause anxiety.
Yellow, orange and gold are earth colors and they are often used in the center of the home for good health energy.
